Steven Johnson: "The #blockchain evangelists behind platforms like #Ethereum believe that a comparable array of advances in software, #cryptography and distributed systems has the ability to tackle today’s digital problems: the corrosive incentives of online advertising; the quasi monopolies of #Facebook, #Google & #Amazon; Russian fake news. If they succeed, their creations may challenge the hegemony of the #techgiants far more effectively than any #antitrust regulation"

Steven Johnson: "The other thing about that @ezraklein #Zuckerberg [interview: https://www.vox.com/2018/4/2/17185052/mark-zuckerberg-facebook-interview-fake-news-bots-cambridge] issue is that it underscores something I didn't get to cover in my #Bitcoin piece for the Times Mag, which is the increasing importance of #governance structures in software design today. (#Blockchain is obsessed with governance.)"

Those problems are not digital. They are ideological and consequently political, inherent to capitalism and state model. Tackling them by technology alone is like shaving tumor to comfortable size, instead of treating it completely.
